National Civic Oration Winner from JGMS!
|
Samantha Sullivan, a member of last year’s Swashbucklers Team at John Griffin Middle School, won the 2011-12 National School Speech/Civic Oration Contest. A current freshman at Jack Britt High School, Ms. Sullivan’s speech titled, “A Time When Volunteers Made a Difference” described the boat lift necessitated by the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in 2001. Samantha’s speech was chosen first over more than 100,000 original entries from throughout the nation. After advancing past school, district and state honors, Samantha submitted a video of her speech and waited through the summer for the official notification, proclaiming her speech as the nation’s best. Samantha and her family were honored at a recent luncheon hosted by the Modern Woodmen of America and Cumberland County Schools. Along with a financial award, Samantha was presented with a plaque to commemorate this recognition. A duplicate plaque was awarded to John Griffin Middle School. It is permanently displayed at the school’s main entrance. Congratulations on a job well done! Your JGMS family is very proud of you! |
