Army Youth Programs in Your Neighborhood 2019-2020A.Y.P.Y.N.

Army Youth Programs in Your Neighborhood will begin on Tuesday September 4th, 2019. This program is open to all students with parents who are active duty military.

  • Please make sure your student has a ride at 4:30 pm. Parent pick-up will be in the back of the school, at the regular “kiss and go” location.
  • Snacks will be available for purchase after each school day.
  • Students will be able to use classrooms for academic studies/homework and leisure reading as well as computers and electronic games.
  • Occasionally the gym will be open between athletic seasons for AYPYN use.  Each area will be supervised by staff.

Meeting Times:  Monday through Thursday from 2:40 pm through 4:30 pm beginning on Monday, September 9, 2019.

Battle of the Books Pull for your teamBattle of the Books

Battle of the Books began is a program for middle school students, grades 6-8. Students at participating schools read books from a list established by the state Battle of the Books committees and then compete in quiz-bowl-style tournaments to test their knowledge of these books. Campus Life Middle SchoolCampus Life Club

Campus Life is sponsored by Fayetteville Youth for Christ and is a club designed to help students establish healthy relationships and make good life choices. It is open to ALL students during the school year. There is NO cost to join. Each week we will have snacks, music, games and lessons taught by trained Youth for Christ adults.

Meetings Times: Wednesdays from 2:50 to 3:50 pm. Parent pick up is at the back of the school. Students should  plan to meet in the cafeteria with Mrs. Hutchison on Wednesdays.

Comic Book Club

Fiddle Group

Open to any JGMS student who plays a stringed instrument (violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar (acoustic), mandolin, banjo, ukulele).
You do not need to be in orchestra to participate, but you do need to know how to play your instrument!
We will learn and play fiddle music in various styles (Bluegrass, Old-Time, Irish)
We will meet Wednesday afternoons in room 625 from 2:45 – 4:00.
First meeting is Wednesday, September 19, 2018.

JGMS Forensics Public Speaking and ActingForensics

The purpose of the Forensics program at the middle school level is to provide students with opportunities to develop good public speaking skills, poise, self-esteem and confidence, as well as to develop academic skills in reading, writing, and research.
Forensics is open to all sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students at JGMS. Students are encouraged to explore the six competitive event categories of Original Oratory, Extemporaneous Speaking, Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Storytelling and Duo-Interpretation. While competition is a feature of the middle school Forensics program, the importance of student participation and personal growth are emphasized and promoted.

Meeting Times: Tuesdays and Thursdays  (2:45-3:45 pm) beginning on Tuesday, September 10, 2019.  Students will be released in the front of the school.

JGMS Green Team

The Green Team is focused on leading our school in our commitment to environmental stewardship. We run the school-wide recycling program and classroom energy audits. We also discuss new ideas on how to make JGMS students and faculty more environmentally conscious.

This club serves as an avenue for historical and cultural enrichment. History I.N.S.P.I.R.E.S. helps to increase students’ knowledge of the world around them while exploring different cultures.  The club is student ran with a student Executive Board, with the guidance of Ms. Geiger, Mr. Dahman, & Mrs. Niccum.

Meetings Times: The first Thursday of every month beginning on September 12, 2019.

Science Pirates- JGMS  Science Enrichment Club

Sponsored by: Science Teachers

Want to know more about BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY or PHYSICS?  Then this is the club for you!

Students will meet with science teachers and other community professionals to investigate various S.T.E.A.M topics.

When: Club Members will meet Wednesdays starting November 1st. Teachers will pick up from the cafeteria after school.  Meetings will run from 2:30 to 3:30.

Cost : $20 per a student for the 2019-2020 school year and is non-refundable. Funding will cover cost of materials and supplies for meetings.

Pick-up Policy: Students will be  picked up at 3:45 in the front of the school.  Please be prompt as student’s being habitually picked up late may result in the need to terminate their being able to remain in the club.

Club Policies: Your child may be dismissed from the club if they have excessive behavioral issues that distract from the meetings.  Students must obey all Science Safety Rules (refer to p.12-13 of the student planner). No refunds will be given if your student is dropped from the club due to behavioral issues, failure to follow safety rules, or habitually late pick up.

The Spanish Club welcomes all students that are interested in learning and exploring the cultures of Spanish speaking countries.  You will participate in a variety of arts and crafts, games, films, music, dance, cooking as well as in the end-of-the-year Multi-Cultural Assembly. All students interested in the Spanish language and diverse cultures are encouraged to join!
