BE ADVISED GRAPHICNew guidelines make 10:45 am the official time that determines if a student is counted present or absent for the school day.

Students who check-out prior to 10:45 am, or check-in after 10:45 am will be counted as absent for the school day.  Of course we believe it is in the best interest of the student to be at school, even if they are officially considered absent.

Be mindful of the following issues;

  • Students who are absent cannot participate in athletics, nor other after school activities, such as attending athletic events as a spectator, clubs or school dances, for that day.
  • Unexcused absences are tracked by our school’s Social Worker, and can cause problems with North Carolina’s compulsory attendance laws.

Due to the impact of Hurricane Florence, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has announced a temporary suspension of immunization requirementsParents and guardians will have until November 6, 2018, to meet these requirements, which will provide additional time for families to present required documentation prior to children being excluded from school.

However, Cumberland County Schools (CCS) has not received authorization to suspend the health assessment requirement. Beginning tomorrow, students who have not presented their health assessment documentation will be excluded from school.

Parents and guardians may contact their school nurse or CCS’ Office of Health Services for more information.
