Wellness Tip: Eat More Fruits & Veggies

Eat More Fruits and Veggies graphic

Most people know that eating fruits and vegetables is important for good health, but most of us still aren’t getting enough. This September, let’s participate in Fruits & Veggies – More Matters Month. Eating a healthy diet with plenty of vegetables and fruits can help you lower your risk for heart disease and some types of cancer, maintain or reach a healthy weight, and keep your body strong and active. Here are some ideas to help you and your family fit more fruits and vegetables into your day. Try keeping a bowl of fruit handy where the whole family can see it, cut up fruits and veggies ahead of time so they’re ready for quick, healthy snacks, and challenge your family to try a new veggie or fruit every week. Remember, eating more fruits and veggies can be fun and worth it!

Good evening, this is Tommy Dent, the Principal at John Griffin Middle School.  Tonight I am calling, of course, to remind all, of our open House on Thursday, August 24th, from 2 – 4 pm.
This is a really good time to meet and greet teachers and renew acquaintances with other parents and students.
We will have our Yellow School Buses parked in the side field, allowing the Bus Parking Lot to be used by parents.  Please be reminded that once school is in session, the Kiss and Go student drop-off and pick-up is in the rear of the school.  The front of the school is reserved for buses only during the beginning and ending of the school day.
Also, tomorrow night’s Parent Briefing for school athletics begins at 6 pm and again at 7 pm.  Tryouts begin on Monday immediately after school.  Visit the JGMS website for more information.
Bus Routes are posted, school locks and PE uniforms will be on sale, and almost all student schedules are completed.  We are looking forward to another fantastic year.  Please remember, “It’s great to be a Pirate.”
Thanks for listening, good bye.

Trying different things can appear challenging such as being a new student at a school or taking a class for the first time. You have to be patient when introducing new things. The same goes for food. It may take more than a few tries for a child to accept an unfamiliar item. Check out these Resources for picky eaters and Handling a “choosy” eater.
